Exploring Industrial Opportunities: The GBRIA Educator Externship Program

In today's rapidly evolving industrial landscape, it's crucial for educators to stay abreast of the career opportunities available to their students. The Greater Baton Rouge Industry Alliance (GBRIA) recognizes this need and is spearheading an initiative to bridge the gap between industry and education through its Educator Externship Program.

The GBRIA Educator Externship Program is designed to provide high school educators, including teachers and career counselors, with firsthand experiences in the industrial sector. Over the course of three days, selected participants will have the opportunity to connect with professionals in plant operations, maintenance, and contractor companies that support industrial facilities.

Louisiana's industrial sector plays a pivotal role in shaping modern life, producing a wide array of essential products. With over 25,000 employees working in member facilities, the industry offers competitive salaries and promising career pathways. Engineers command a median salary of over $74,000 per year, while industrial trades and technicians can earn between $47,000 and $100,000 or more annually.

The GBRIA Educator Externship Program will take place from June 24th to 26th, 2024. High school educators interested in participating must submit their applications by May 3rd, 2024. Selected participants will receive a $1,000 stipend upon completion of the program, provided they attend all three days.

The program promises an immersive experience, featuring site visits, workshops, and networking opportunities with industry professionals. Participants will gain valuable insights into the inner workings of industrial facilities, fostering a deeper understanding of the career paths available to their students.

Educators interested in applying for the program can find more information and access the application portal on the GBRIA website. Additionally, industry professionals who wish to host externs at their facilities are encouraged to apply as host sites.
