LDOE's Teacher Leader Summit

The Louisiana Department of Education's Teacher Leader Summit is Louisiana’s premier professional learning event. Thousands of Louisiana educators dedicate part of their summer break to improve in their craft and prepare for the school year ahead.

This year, Capital Area STEM Network Center's Director, Summer Dann, and Program Manager, Natalie Ray, led two presentation sessions on the impact and objectives of the Ignite Initiative. Participants gained insight into the project's success, as well as engaged in techniques on how to integrate computer science into elementary classrooms. Teachers and educational leaders left feeling inspired to enhance their classrooms and schools with concepts of foundational computer science that will serve students' futures.

Outside of the sessions, there were networking opportunities, where participants flocked to the Capital Area STEM Network Center and LSU's Gordon A. Cain Center for STEM Literacy exposition booth. Kaleb Gardner and Deborah Bonales, representatives of the Cain Center, engaged in hundreds of conversations with participants to inform them of the various opportunities and programs our organizations have to offer.
