Shaping Futures Through Career & Technical Education: CTEC Students Shine in ExxonMobil Summer Internship Program

The East Baton Rouge Parish Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC) is proud to celebrate the achievements of two outstanding students, Joshua Ross and Deldres Long, whose dedication, skills, and ambition earned them coveted spots in the ExxonMobil Summer Internship Program.

Joshua Ross – Scotlandville Magnet High School

Joshua Ross spent two years immersed in the carpentry program at CTEC under the guidance of Mr. Edward Gautreaux, where he earned a CTIF Carpentry Level 2 certification. During his time in the program, Joshua contributed to meaningful community projects, including building a concession stand for Tara High School and constructing an ADA-compliant playhouse for Southdowns Pre-K Center.

Between his junior and senior years, Joshua was selected as one of just 30 summer interns at ExxonMobil. Throughout the internship, he rotated through departments, gaining hands-on experience and insight into the inner workings of a global energy company.

Following his graduation in May, Joshua applied to the Carpenters Union and was one of only 15 individuals accepted into their apprenticeship program. His work on the ADA-compliant playhouse left such a strong impression that the Union invited him to their national convention and featured his story in their national publication.

Deldres Long – Belaire High School

Deldres Long, a dedicated electrical student at Belaire High School, spent three years in Mr. Bruce Williams’ class, where he earned a Level 2 IBC in Electrical through NCCER. He also competed in Louisiana SkillsUSA in Motor Controls, where he earned a Gold medal, qualifying him to compete at the national level.

After graduating in May, Deldres was also selected to participate in the ExxonMobil Summer Internship Program. With a clear goal in mind, Deldres is counting on his industry-based credential and internship experience to launch his dream career at ExxonMobil.

These success stories are a testament to the power of hands-on, career-focused education. CTEC continues to create pathways for students to develop real-world skills, connect with industry leaders, and build futures filled with opportunity. Congratulations to Joshua and Deldres for representing CTEC with excellence and determination!
