This exciting event invites 5th-grade students from across Louisiana to participate in a challenging math competition, as well as a coding contest based on Code.org’s Computer Science Fundamentals curriculum. Kenilworth Science and Technology Academy is partnering with Code Ninjas and City Year to provide a day of learning, competition, and fun for Louisiana’s young STEM enthusiasts.

Rose Kendrick, Code.org Program Manager for the Gordon A. Cain Center at LSU, highlighted the significance of the event: “At the Cain Center, we believe in building a strong foundation in STEM education. This Olympiad provides a platform for elementary students to showcase their critical thinking and coding skills, which are vital for their future academic and career success.”

Participants will have the opportunity to win exciting prizes, including Chromebooks, AirPods, and drones, while teachers will be recognized for their contributions to Math and Computer Science education. In addition, parents, guardians, and teachers will have access to computer science-related workshops and activities while students take part in the competition.

Hasan Suzuk, Executive Director of Kenilworth Science and Technology Academy, expressed his excitement for the upcoming event: “We are thrilled to host another Math and Coding Olympiad, where students can meaningfully engage with math and coding. This year’s event takes place as Louisiana’s education system embraces a transformative shift towards digital literacy and computer science, underscored by new state initiatives aimed at preparing students for the future.”

The Olympiad is free and open to all 5th-grade students in Louisiana. Registration is now open, and participants are encouraged to sign up early as space is limited.
